HGCAL

The Phase 2 CMS endcap calorimeter upgrade is an ambitious project from many points of view, including the engineering, the electronics, and the offline software. The ultimate goal is to produce and operate the first highly-granular calorimeter (HGCAL) with silicon and scintillator sections, that besides unprecedented spatial granularity will also provide precise energy and timing measurements – a 5D detector built for particle flow.

Starting from the experience of the CMS preshower and linear collider detector efforts, the HGCAL is a flagship and innovative detector that will in many ways trial the feasibility of detector technologies for future colliders.

We meet regularly to discuss on-going work and that work is then presented to the project.
